Update -
Firstly, let’s look at
Kreeton Overture. This one is interesting because it’s credited to Michael, Patrick Leonard (best known for his work with Madonna), Jai Winding (keyboardist) and Marty Paich (a jazz pianist who passed away in 1995, and the father of David Paich from the band Toto). However, according to PRS, this was actually registered all the way back in 2018.
Shut Up & Dance, 7 Digits, Be Me 4 A Day, Promise, Verdict and
Man In Black appear to not yet have been registered with PRS.
Descending Angels was registered back in 1998, and is not a new song. It’s part of the score from the short film
Ghosts.
Endt It (not a typo), was registered back in 2009, and the listing updated again in 2018.
Michael is the sole credited writer, but only on a 50% split, suggesting the listing may not be complete.
I Have This Dream is a title that’s been known for a while. This one’s a co-write with David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager, but on the PRS database was originally registered in 2012.
Remember This Night is another interesting one. According to the records, this one is a co-write with Paul McCartney, Dominic King and Bradley Knox Walker. This one was also a recent register — registered originally in 2019 and updated in 2020. Could this be a previously unknown MJ and Paul McCartney duet dating back to The Girl Is Mine and Say Say Say era
(before their well publicised falling out?)
Slipped Away was registered in 2018, and is credited to Michael and his brother Marlon Jackson as writers.
Stay is a song that could be concerning. You see, there are two listings under this title. One is credited to Michael, Eddie Cascio and James Porte. You might remember Eddie and James as being the duo behind the three fake songs that appeared on the
Michael album in 2010. But, the good news here is that this song was registered in 2011. We assume the Estate and Sony have learned their lesson since then, since the last thing we need is more fake songs.
But the other interesting thing is that the other listing with the same name is credited to Michael and Bryan Loren. However, this was registered in 1995, so there’s no evidence to suggest anything is potentially being done with this song.
Finally,
You’re The One is a co-write between Michael Jackson and Buz Kohan. You might remember that Michael and Buz wrote “You Were There” and “Scared Of The Moon” together, as well as another unreleased song called “Make A Wish”. Again, this song was originally registered in 2009 and has been updated in 2018.
